The Role of Butyric Acid for Gut Health and Ketosis

Butyric acid is a short-chain fatty acid (SCFA) produced mainly by specialised butyrate-producing gut bacteria. Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus primarily support these butyrate producers rather than producing butyrate themselves. Butyric acid plays a crucial role in maintaining the health of your gut lining, promoting healthy digestion, and supporting overall metabolic function, including ketosis.

standard Pro32 Probiotics formulation:

   • Bifidobacterium longum: Helps produce beneficial SCFAs, supports gut function, and
     contributes to overall immune health.
2. Lactobacillus Species:
   • Lactobacillus rhamnosus: Enhances gut health, supports digestion, and promotes the
     growth of beneficial bacteria.
   • Lactobacillus acidophilus: Encourages a healthy microbiota, aids digestion, and supports immune function.
3. Inulin:
   • Inulin is a prebiotic fibre that helps nourish and support the growth of Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus strains. By adding Inulin, we provide an ideal environment for these probiotics to thrive, which ultimately supports the production of butyrate and other beneficial SCFAs.

Dosage and Protocol

For best results, take Butyrate Pro36 liquid live cultures according to the following protocol:

1. Start with 2 x 15 ml doses per day on an empty stomach.
2. After 2 weeks, reduce to 1 x 15 ml per day for daily maintenance.
3. For maintaining gut health and supporting ketosis, take 3 to 4 doses per week.
4. Use double the dosage (30 ml per day) if you are feeling ill, fatigued, or under stress.
5. Gargle and swallow when you feel the onset of a sore throat to help soothe irritation and
   support immune function.

IMPORTANT

Introducing new probiotic bacteria into your system can cause a temporary, rapid shift in the microbiome, leading to bloating, gas and cramping. These side effects, commonly known as a “die-off” reaction or adjustment period, usually subside within a few days but can take up to two weeks as your digestive system stabilises.

WHAT TO DO

• If you are worried about the above and want to avoid it, start with a 5ml dose and gradually increase to a normal dose.
• If symptoms are severe, stop taking the probiotic for a few days and reintroduce at a very low dose (5ml a day or every second day) once symptoms are alleviated. Slowly build up to a normal dose.
• If symptoms are mild, decrease dosage to 5ml every day or every second day, gradually increasing to the normal dose as specified on the product label.
